Date and Venue

The Symposium will be held from 31 March to 3 April 2004 at the UNESCO Headquarters, 7 Place de Fontenoy, 75352 Paris, 7th Arrondissement, France. A welcome reception will be held at the same venue on 31 March after the first day sessions. 

The meeting is in the Conference Building, UNESCO Headquarters, opposite the Ecole Militaire and near the Eiffel Tower. Depending which direction you're coming from, it can be accessed from 125 Av de Suffren (direct into the Conference Building, blue cross on map) or through the main UNESCO entrance at 7 Place de Fontenoy (red cross on map). Closest Metro stops are Segur, Cambronne and Motte-Piquet Grenelle, in that order.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT UNESCO TO REGISTER YOU MUST USE THE MAIN ENTRANCE (RED + ON THE MAP). THIS IS REQUIRED BY NEW UNESCO SECURITY REGULATIONS. ONCE YOU HAVE A MEETING BADGE YOU CAN USE THE CONFERENCE ENTRANCE.

Meeting materials can be picked up during the Registration 30 March from 5-8 p.m. at UNESCO/IOC. Participants are requested to register on 30 March if at all possible.

TRAVEL FROM AIRPORT TO CENTRAL PARIS:

From Airport Charles de Gaulle (Roissy)

TAXI: This is not recommended between 9h and 10h, 12h and 14h, and 16h to 19h as traffic congestion will make this a long and costly trip! Expect the cost to be between 40 and 50 Euros, depending on traffic.

BUS + METRO or TAXI: There is a shuttle bus (ROISSYBUS) between the airport and the rue Scribe near the Paris Opera. There are buses every 30 minutes. From the bus stop either walk to the Metro stop nearby, or take a taxi toy our hotel. All this will take approximately 1 hour (the bus takes 30-45 min.) Some of the buses also make stops at the Arc de Triomphe ("Etoile") or the Porte Maillot convention center.

RER + METRO:There is a high-speed rail link called RER which you can take from the airport. Take RER B line southbound (direction Orly, Robinson or St Remy-les-Ch) and get off at 'Denfert Rochereau'. From there you can transfer to the METRO as needed to get to your hotel. This route will take approximately 30 minutes.

TAXI: will cost approx. Euro 25. This is not to be advised between 8h and 10h or between 13h and 15h as traffic congestion will make this a long and costly journey.

RER + METRO: There is a high-speed rail link called RER which you can take from the airport. Take RER B northbound (direction Charles de Gaulle or Mitry-Claye) and get off at 'Denfert Rochereau'. There transfer to the METRO as needed to get to your hotel. This route will take approximately 30 minutes.

Language: The official language of the symposium is English. Simultaneous translation into French will not be available.
