Publication of the Symposium Proceedings
Professor Niels Daan, the Guest Editor for the
ICES volume originating from the Symposium, will be present throughout
the meeting. He will have an office near the meeting – please
ask for the exact location at the registration desk. Manuscripts
must be given to Professor Daan on the first day of the Symposium;
he will be collaborating with authors during the meeting.
Selected papers from the Symposium will be published
in the ICES Journal of Marine Science, subject to a full
peer-review process. Registered participants will receive
a copy of the special issue following its publication. The editorial
team consists of Niels Daan,
who will act as guest-editor, and the Convenors, Philippe Cury and
Villy Christensen. In addition, the Journal editor Andy Payne will
guide the publication process.
Authors intending to submit manuscripts for the
proceedings should provide one hardcopy as well
as an electronic version (a text file including
references, tables and figure captions preferably in MSWord; figures
in a separate file, preferably Excel or pdf; CD-R, ZIP, USB disks
etc.) to the Symposium Secretariat upon arrival in Paris.
If it is not possible to deliver electronic files, four hardcopies
should be brought. Authors will be informed before the end
of the Symposium whether their manuscripts has been selected
for entering the review process.
Because of a strict page limit for the proceedings - and to ensure
a broad coverage of the topics -, the main text of a manuscript
must not exceed 4000 words (Introduction through acknowledgements;
excluding abstract, references, tables, figures), while
two or three printed pages are available for figures and tables.
Layout must closely follow the ICES Guide for Authors available
from the web
site (Links 'Guide for Authors' and 'Artwork Instructions' near
the top of the page). In addition note that, because graphs are
re-lettered by Elsevier to enhance uniformity, it is most appreciated
if two sets of figures are provided, one with labelling and one
without labelling. A limited number of colour graphs can be reproduced
free of charge, but it is up to the editorial team how these are
best distributed.
Because it is intended to publish the proceedings within
15 months after the Symposium, it is of utmost importance
to speed up the peer-review process. Therefore, contributing authors
will be requested to review one or two of the other papers presented
within one month after receipt. File exchange by
e-mail has proven to cut down postal handling time significantly.
Moreover, MSWord files allow suggestions for changes and comments
to be made directly to the text in revision mode, which saves authors
valuable time. We expect most contributors to use these tools and
to observe the deadlines closely.
